15 Easy Steps to a Mom’s Night Out
I know that one of the hardest things for me about becoming a mom for the first time was transitioning into making mom friends. I didn’t really stay on the same time line as many of my lifelong friends. Waiting until after 30 to have my first baby. So when it came time to have a tribe of mom friends, most of my friends had kids in grade school and some even in high school. While I remained friends with most of those awesome ladies, some relations fell to the wayside as we were in different seasons of life. Gone we’re my carefree days of last minute plans and relaxing coffee dates. I figured there are a few key things I could do to make some new mom friends that were in this same season with me. Some of that was planning a mom’s night out and inviting friends to join! So here is how to plan for your first MNO after becoming a mom, in 15 simple steps.
Step 1: Spend 3 months planning moms night out. I mean this is a rare thing and it’s got to be ah-mazing after all.Pick and choose all your favorite places to have dinner, drinks or just hang out. Now go through your list and mark off all the places that you can’t hang out with because they got a bad review on yelp!, your best once dated the bartender, it’s too family oriented, and that one that you have to park far away (you haven’t worn heels in awhile and aren’t sure how far you’ll be able to walk in them).
Step 2: Secure a Babysitter: I know I know, it’s not considered babysitting if they’re your kid. So if Dad is on diaper duty you’re good. Make sure you mark it on the calendar and remind him often. He’s got a little baby brain too ya know. If you need a legit babysitter, start calling/texting now. A good babysitter is a prize commodity and they get booked fast. You might even plan a few back ups just in case something comes up.
Step 3: Pick out the right outfit: this is your chance to show off those pre-pregnancy clothes that you’ve been working hard to fit back into. Go ahead and pick out 3 outfits. Most likely it won’t fit just right by the time MNO actually rolls around, one will probably get spit up on as you’re walking out the door. So make your favorite actually your third choice. Trust me on this one.
Step 4: Reconfirm babysitter every few days. Until actual date of MNO.
Step 5: Remember you forgot to make a reservation for the restaurant you finally decided on. Call and do that now.
Day of Prep!
Step 6: Confirm babysitter, again.
Step 7: Self Care Prep- During nap time shave. Yep, shave everything, you know you need to. And even if you’re wearing pants, so do yourself a favor and shave those legs.
Step 8: Outfit- try on outfit. Make sure you can at least zip, button or snap it. Oh and make sure you can sit in it, you’re going to be sitting and we don’t want any split seams.
Step 9: Getting started: get your hair going and of course make-up. I don’t spend much time on these as my styles are pretty simple. Make sure you brush your teeth too! Take it a step further and clean your tongue. Did you know that bad breath comes from a dirty tongue? Who would have thought? Try an Orabrush tongue cleaner to clean your tongue and help get rid of bad breath ASAP. The micro-pointed bristles reach deep into the uneven crevices of your tongue to loosen & lift stinky bacteria and the built-in scraper removes the bacteria from the surface of your tongue. Toothbrush bristles are packed in tight bunches to sweep the smooth surface of your teeth, not clean your tongue!
Step 10: Get out there!! Have a blast with your friends. During this time you will do steps 11-13, which including checking your phone over and over for messages about the kids, panic slightly about being away from home, nursing moms this is when you have a milk leak and spot your shirt and leave early.
Step 14: head home and talk about how much you missed the baby with the babysitter.
Step 15: Be in bed, asleep by 8 pm.
There you have it, Mom’s Night Out in 15 easy steps. Hope you had fun.
