DS- 40-Weeks Blog Header-v1

Pregnancy, 40 weeks of your life made growing your sweet baby. As a RN, I felt that I had a great knowledge base of what to expect while I was expecting (see what I did there). Boy, was I wrong! There are so many things that you don’t understand or expect until you are in the moment experiencing them. The documentary, 40 Weeks The Movie, premiering soon follows a group of women through the unique experience of their 40 weeks of pregnancy. The documentary is brought to you by Big Belli and is sponsored by one of my favorite brands, Dr. Smith’s. To find a screening in your area just click {HERE} I’ve seen the film (blogger perks) and its amazing. I’ll be attending the screening here in Austin, so if you’re local come out and join me.

In my 40 weeks I had an appendicitis, severe heart burn and swelling in my legs that was disturbing. Nothing really can prepare you for it. On the bright side, those 40 weeks were the most amazing time for The Mister and I to bond with our little guy. We talked to him, I sang to him (I know 1 lullaby) and we got to feel him kick and move. It was wonderful to see these women go through the same ups and downs emotionally that I felt. To experience the joys and even the disappointment when things didn’t go as planned. Here I am at almost the end of my 40 weeks. Baby D was born just a week after these beautiful photos were captured.

At 40 weeks we went to my brother’s birthday meal and had we had an emergency plan in case I should go into labour at dinner. I even made sure I had cash in my purse to leave with my mum to pay for our dinner even if we had to go. Everything in the diary was pencilled in just in case plans changed. I had an appointment with the midwife to see what was going on. Even then they thought that Jaxon was coming head first. A week and a day later it would turn out that he was breech.

My little guy was one day shy of 40 weeks and my princess was 37 weeks. I can’t say I miss those hard last weeks at all!!

With my first, my 40 weeks never came! Because of complications I had her 4 weeks early. Everything turned out fine though! My second I was 2 days early. 🙂 This is a great resource!

We have a 4 month old, so I remember my 40 weeks all too well at this point. Mine weren’t too bad except for moving across the country at 36 weeks pregnant. Pregnancy is such a hard yet incredible thing!! The documentary sounds interesting.

This sounds like a really interesting documentary! My 40 weeks were only 38 weeks, but they were pretty uneventful save for ending up with gestational diabetes. Thankfully I was able to control it with diet. Side note, my friend had appendicitis when she was pregnant with her first child too. Crazy!

I didn’t make it 40 weeks but for the time i was pregnant it was amazing. I learned just how much I could love someone I never met.

I recall my 40 weeks I was wobbling all over the malls and small-town stores with my Mom. I was really lucky and very grateful that I still did not feel any contractions, although my baby moved a lot.

I will have to check out that documentary. It sounds very interesting. Thank you for sharing!

Congrats on the baby! I’ve got 3, none of them went as planned and the last one was a bit scary.

What a special thing to be able to track your pregnancy through your blog- I LOVE that! My baby is 6 months old now, but this last pregnancy just about took me. I had to deliver at 34 weeks so we spent some time in NICU. She is doing amazing now, and is growing way to fast! Congrats on becoming a mama!

I’m on week 37 right now, counting down! I wish I would have chronicled it, because this is #2 and our last. Pregnancy does not suit me, though, but infant hood is such a beautiful journey!

I was exactly 38 weeks and on my way to the doctor for my check up. I had to go in every week because I had Hypertension. We lived in Korea at the time and I had to go to the Base that was 2 hrs away, the little hospital on our Post was not equipped for cases like me. So on the second train while stepping of I felt a funny plop feeling, this is where I thought this can’t be my water?! But yes it was and we still had one train to go to get to the hospital. I tell ya that was fun! My mom died when I was 13 so I had no one really tell me how a pregnancy is. The first 3 months I couldn’t keep anything down made multiple trips to the ER. Chicken and Peanut butter seemed to be the only thing I could keep down in the beginning. No one told me that thing after the baby is out will happen for weeks. You know what I’m talking about?! I wish I would have known more about all this.

Im an RN too and I avoid telling Dr’s and Nurses that I see during my appointments that I am a nurse because then they treat me differently. I would prefer that they treat me like I have no medical background because sometimes I am actually not familiar with what they are talking to me about. I especially felt that way with my last pregnancy.

Geez, an appendicitis at 40 weeks?! Glad you’re okay! My 40 weeks definitely did not go as planned, but does that happen for anyone? (I’m sure there’s some lucky ladies out there.) The doctor got the due date 100% correct, but I was terribly swollen – so, so bad – and ended up with an emergency c-section. It was rough. I’m actually still emotional about not having my baby boy in a semi-natural way. I was exhausted and scared, and the epidural for the c-section made me feel like I was on fire.
Anyways, enough about that experience. I’m going to look for this movie and rent it! Thanks!

You had appendicitis while you were pregnant?! I can’t even imagine how scary that must have been! My sister had it when she was really young and it was incredibly serious!

    The film sounds great!

I have to be honest, my 40 weeks went exactly as I had expected, mostly. I didn’t expect things like painful boobs in the first trimester, but otherwise it went as expected. I figured that my blood pressure would run high and that my ankles would swell and both happened. 🙂

I didn’t care one bit once my sweet little boy arrived. <3

  33. Natalie says

I only went 38 weeks and 1 day, and I felt every single one of those days. I was not one of those women who enjoys being pregnant, so I’d have to say that my favorite part of pregnancy was having it over! 🙂 (But other than that–I loved feeling the early jumps and kicks. The later body slams to the ribs not so much.)

  34. Celeste says

    November 19, 2014 at 8:35 pm

Wow. Sounds like you really had it rough by the end there. When I hit 40 weeks, suddenly every day I could get closer to my due date (or my induction date) seemed to make all the difference. Thanks for the post 🙂

I didn’t really have expectations the first time around, and the second time around it was completely different right from the start than my first time. I did have horrible heart burn and severed SPD with both though, and insanely bad morning sickness with my second. Pregnancy is such an amazing time, but I don’t miss it!

Congratulations on the birth of Baby D! 🙂
I never got to make it to my 40 weeks with any of my 3 boys. They were all huge so they needed to be c-sectioned out and the doctor wanted them on the schedule 3 weeks sooner. I always wondered if they had problems due to lack of that extra incubation time… *hugs* to you and your family!
