Mother’s day is that special day every year that we recognize our mothers and the amazing women in our lives. Until a few years ago, it was all about sending my mom flowers and a nice card that had a heart felt sentiment inside. This year I spent the weekend before with my mom and was able to surprise her with beautiful flowers and a card while I was there.
As a mom of a little one I think about Mother’s Day a little differently for myself. I think about hand prints on homemade cards and sweet notes [pictures colored by my little man. My husband is teaching my son the importance of appreciation by making this holiday special for me while he is too young to understand it completely.
Here are a few more ways to make Mother’s Day kid friendly and special.
Flowers: Let the child choose a store bought bouquet or pick wildflowers for a special arrangement.
Gift: Mom’s are terrible about shopping for ourselves, we would much rather shop for our little ones. Find out what mom has on her wish list and make her day with a surprise, not sure what she would like? Our Mother’s Day gift guide can help spark a great idea!
Prepare a special meal: Mom’s love brunch! We love to have an easy going morning and not be rushed to cook and clean the kitchen. Have the kids help to prepare a delicious and fun meal that mom will love being treated to. French Toast casserole and King Ranch Casserole are a few of my personal favorites, but here are some more great breakfast ideas.
Cake!: Everyone loves cake and Mother’s Day is a great time to celebrate mom with a special cake. Make it even more special with a beautiful Elegant Rosette Ice Cream Cake for Baskin-Robbins. My family knows my favorite ice cream flavor and since the cake is completely customizable, I know it will be a treat that any mom will enjoy. I special requested Reese’s Peanut butter ice cream with chocolate cake, yum! Plus it can be ordered online so it’s super easy!
Handmade gift: Mom’s cherish every trinket and handmade gift our children make. Grandmother’s love them too. Consider sitting down with the kids and making something as simple as a homemade card. Want to get really crafty, we have tons of great ideas on our Mother’s Day Pinterest Board.
