Now that our daughter is home from the NICU I find it even harder to have moments to myself, me moments. I spend my days chasing my happy and free spirited toddler and tending to the needs of an infant. Not to mention cook dinner, try to clean house and occasionally tackle the clothes that needing folding before they have all been worn and are dirty again. I love every minute of being a wife and mom. Months ago when Mary had first come home, my husband walked into the nursery where he found me sitting in the glider nursing a baby with a toddler laying across my lap watching his tablet. He asked if I was okay, my response, “I was made for this.”
Now don’t get me wrong I enjoy having a few minutes to myself too. They take a little more planning but they happen. Here are a 6 great ways to have a me moment.
Get your hair done- Not only is it something that most people do regularly any ways, but it’s an awesome time to sit, read a magazine and have someone give you a scalp massage. If it’s been an especially long week maybe ask to have it washed twice.
Hot bath- this is one of my favorites. After everyone has gone to bed, I fill that big garden tub and sink into it and try not to fall asleep. I usually scroll Facebook on my phone or just close my eyes and enjoy the quiet of my sleepy house.
Walk the aisles of your favorite store- I have a few and there is nothing better than getting away from a bit and walking through your favorite store. These trips usually don’t end in purchases, it just something to get away for a few minutes and think.
Read a book- this one usually only happens while soaking in that big tub so it’s a bit of a two fold. I’ve been working on the same book for over a month, when I have a few minutes to pick it up and read a few pages I am instantly back into the story.
Indulge in a snack- This is the mom in me, there are days that I am so busy that even stopping to eat something can be a challenge. Well take a minute and indulge in a snack. It doesn’t have to be something packed with sugar or will leaving you feeling guilty later to enjoy it. Oui by Yoplait is a French style yogurt inspired by our traditional French recipe. I love the glass pots that it is sold in and am thinking of a million ways to upcycle them! Oui is cultured in each glass pot for eight hours, creating a unique, thick, creamy and cuttable texture. Even better I picked it up while I was shopping at Walmart so it’s easy to find.
Exercise- Sign up for a regular group exercise class like yoga or Pilates, really like to use up some energy and spin might be more for you. Don’t have time for the gym, put on your tennis shoes and hit the pavement for a nice long walk.
How ever you do it, finding a way to have a me moment from time to time is good for us. It helps us reset, problem solve better and it makes you happy!
