This year John is starting Pre-K4 and his new school is amazing. We had the opportunity to attend their Summer program and absolutely loved it. I can not wait to see what the year ahead will be like for us. One thing that is different than the school we previously attend is that this year he will be wearing a uniform. While I think the uniform is super cute on him, I will miss the mornings where he is trying to decide between the shirt with monster trucks on it or the one with space rockets. There is something exciting about your child reaching the milestone of being able to dress themselves.
I was thinking about ways that John could still be “stylish” or unique even though he will be in a uniform this year. I decided that there are 3 things that we could have to make sure that he has a little personality showing in his day to day school uniform, a fun backpack/lunch box, a nice jacket (it will eventually get cool here in Texas) and awesome shoes. Since he wear a collared shirt and shorts or slacks the first thing on my list was cool shoes. I’m not all about the light up action figure shoes, and lets be honest I don’t think about mom is. The second they stop lighting up there will be melt downs so I avoid that all together. Instead I pick the shoes, this is something that he lets me pick out for him and so far he has loved everything I have selected. We normally do a sneaker, but this year I was going for more unique to go with the uniform. I chose Blundstone Blunnies Boots in rustic brown. I love these because they are great for boys and girls (hello hand me downs for little sister!) they are super durable and no laces, so they can put them on all by themselves. John has tumbling at school so he takes his shoes off and on during the day and its essential he can put them on by himself. Oh! and when you order them they send an extra pair of footbeds making them ideal for growing feet. You can just remove the extra footbeds as your child’s feet grow for months of extra wear.
Since I dread the idea of going back to school shopping and hitting the stores this time of year I went online to give him a selection of fun back packs to chose from.
He had a hard time picking just one but eventually was able to narrow it down to the Captain America backpack, which of course was not part of the ones I had picked out for him.
If you are getting a new backpack you know you have to shop for a cool new lunch box too! I found these great picks online of course and let him chose his favorite.
For inside the lunch box I love Sugarboogers Good Lunch box and Camelbak Water bottles.
At some point in Texas the weather will turn a little cool, and we occassionally get a few drops of rain. I like to purchase one light jacket that works for everything. This time we did head to the store and he chose this adorable Cat & Jack waterproof jacket.
