Homemade Shamrock Shakes for St. Patrick’s Day

St. Patrick’s Day is a holiday celebrated by many despite not having Irish heritage. That’s what is so great about it, everyone can have fun even if you’re just there for the green drinks and a few pinches. This delicious kid friendly treat is sure to have the kids shouting they have the Luck o’ the Irish!  Shamrock Shakes are a mainstream drink but are usually only available for a limited time. With this recipe you can make homemade shamrock shakes anytime your heart desires a bit of luck and sweet!

Shamrock Shape // Life Anchored

Shamrock shakes are a big deal this time of year. Who doesn’t love a cold, minty green milk shake? I’m kind of loving all of these fun green foods and St. Patrick’s Day treats. Last week we shared with you how to make tasty Leprechaun Bait (a great craft for the kids) and our Rainbow jars are the perfect gift to put anyone in the St. Patrick’s Day mood.

I decided to put my own spin on the shamrock shake recipe and share it here with you.

Before you get started you are going to need to gather the following:

2 scoops Vanilla Ice Cream
Mint extract to taste
Green food coloring
Whipped cream
1.5 cups Whole milk
For a special twist mint/chocolate chips can be added.

With this simple recipe you can now enjoy a delicious Shamrock Shake year round and not just at St. Patrick’s Day!

My husband loves Shamrock shakes from McDonald’s. We make chocolate shakes at home all the time and thought I would give this a try. I have not been able to find mint extract. Where did you purchase yours?

Whole foods is my usual grocery store. Another option would be to use mint essential oils. Young Living brand is the only one I use and know is safe for ingestion. Let me know if you’d like more info on how to order them. lifeanchored@gmail.com
