I don’t know how you do it where you live but in Texas Halloween is a weather mystery. Last year we had beautiful weather past Halloween and at the last minute I had to make adjustments to our family costume for the warm weather and it was still hot! With the weather in mind we don’t get weeks of displaying our super cute carved pumpkins. Seriously it is going to be 90 ish for the next few weeks still. Pumpkin carving is something that goes down either the day before Halloween or the day of. A few years ago we did the traditional carving and the kids were just not into it and obviously it’s a bit dangerous with little ones. So last year we changed it up, instead of carving our pumpkins we painted them. So in following with our new tradition we spent this morning painting our pumpkins again for this year! So if you’re looking for an easy no carve pumpkin decorating idea that is perfect for kids we’ve got you covered.
Here is what you need for easy pumpkin decorating:
Pumpkins of any size (we used Snowball pumpkins for best color appearance)
Craft paper (to cover the table or work area)
After you’ve gathered your supplies it’s time to let the fun begin. I covered the kids table with white craft paper but anything protective will work.
They spent all the time they wanted painting and decorating their pumpkins. When they were done we set them aside for a few minutes. The temper paint sticks dry pretty quickly. After about 5 minutes we were ready to move into the next phase of decorating.
The kids selected their googly eyes from my rather impressive stash. Since a grown up is ideal when dealing with hot glue, they gave me directions on placement and I tended to this part. Next came pipe cleaners and pompoms. Once we were finished they of course asked to do more.
We might have to make a trip to the pumpkin patch today to snag a few more pumpkins for this easy no carve pumpkin decorating fun! Happy crafting!
