I have an amazing group of friends, friends that I have known since Jr high, high school and college. We talk on the phone, we make trips to see each other, and we support each other. It makes me sad that in time we’ve moved away from each other and are each in different seasons of life. You see, I’m one of the last ones to have a baby. Most of my friends, have kids in grade school, some even in Jr high. This makes play dates a little harder, sometimes it makes even visiting hard, because we still have a nap schedule.
A few months ago Tribe Austin opened, a vision of Alex Winkelman, an Austin mom who experienced post-partum depression after her son was born. “Motherhood is HARD. It is, without question, the most challenging adventure most of us have ever known. Everything about becoming a mother is both beautiful and an inconsolably messy,” said Alex in a recent interview with Austin Woman Magazine and she’s right! As mom’s our families count on us for so much and often we neglect ourselves. We need to take back our role as mom’s by redefining it, by caring for our families and ourselves through our health and wellness. That is the purpose of Tribe Austin, they are building a community that allows us to rely on each other, build each other up and improve the overall health and wellness of our families.
Tribe offers a variety of fitness classes that any mom would enjoy, Barre is my personal favorite; others include strength and tone and various yoga classes.
Two days a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays Tribe opens it’s doors to the community with FREE Mommy & Me Wellness and Prenatal/Postnatal Yoga classes. Children of all ages are welcome at Mommy & Me wellness and are active through songs, yoga and lots of fun interactions.
As with all classes at Tribe Austin non mobile babies are welcome in prenatal/postnatal yoga. Amazing childcare is available for mobile children during all other classes. While in childcare my son is engaged by caring teachers that play games, sing songs, and practice yoga with him. He is always excited when I mention going to “exercise.”
Some times after a class I need a few minutes to address emails or return calls, Tribe has a co-working area that moms are welcome to use with wifi while there children remain in childcare having fun! Some days this is a lifesaver for me. I love to visit with fellow moms, exchange contact info, plan a play date or just take a breather for a few minutes.
I’ve found it, I’ve found my Tribe. These woman are amazing, caring and we all want to be better for our families.
