Getting ready for the holidays can be a fun family experience. Many families will put up a Christmas tree and start planning the festivities this week as Thanksgiving is behind us and the Christmas count down is under way. I know we got our decorations out of the attic last week and they are out and being enjoyed.
Last year my mom, Granny, started a fun tradition with the grandkids. A few weeks before Christmas she decorated gingerbread houses with them. Everyone loved it, Jdub had fun sneaking the candy off to eat when he was finished. This year we are staying home for Christmas and I wanted to keep the new tradition going.
Every time we’ve been to the store lately Jdub has spotted the boxes of gingerbread house kits and asked when we were going to make ours. So I snagged a kit (prebuilt house) and while the kit comes with some candy, it just isn’t enough for our style. So we visited the candy aisle and grabbed a few more essentials. I made sure that I also grabbed clean up supplies while I was there. Viva Paper towels in the 6 pack. I have a few other kid projects we’ll be working on this month so I’m clean up ready now.
I set up a mini candy buffet to make for easy decorating. The frosting is a little firm so I placed the frosting aka the glue and Jdub placed all the candy. We smacked along the way and of course made a few fun memories as well as a mess. When we were all done, he was proud to show off his master piece, and moments later took a bit out of the roof! Which had crumbs everywhere. Good thing there are 6 rolls of paper towels in that pack!
