We’re celebrating National Play-Doh Day with a fun and easy project. This project can be made with just a few ingredients you have on hand at home. I love that you can add in your favorite essential oils, so this one is for all my Oily Mommas out there.
Here is what you need:
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup salt
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1 cup water
1.5 tablespoons coconut oil (any kind of oil will work!)
Food coloring
6-8 drops of essential oils of your choice (My favorite it StressAway)
Now to get started, in a saucepan, stir the flour, salt, and cream of tartar together. Next you are going to add in the water, cooking oil, and food coloring and mix until smooth. Turn on the heat to medium-low, and stir until the mixture forms a ball. Once the mixture has reached play dough-consistency, remove it from the heat and allow it to cool for 3-4 minutes. Knead in the essential oils of your choice. (You can poke a hole in the center of the ball and drop in the oils) Store in an air-tight container. Storing it in the fridge will make it last even longer!

What a fun way to play! I work with infants and toddlers, and know there is enough controversy about ingestion of oils to keep me from calling this totally “taste safe”. My own children are old enough to trust not to put things in their mouths, though, so this will be a fun treat for at home!
