With summer winding and fall activities kicking off I know I can’t be the only busy parent out there starting to think about how to best keep everything running as smooth as possible. We had a lot of fun over the summer with various camps every few weeks and we did continue to do school (we school year round currently). Come September we have some really fun NEW regular activities we plan to start and I know that means we’re going to be on the go. While I don’t mind being a busy parent I do like keeping things organized and I have a few things that help me keep it all running smoothly.
Life Savers for Busy Parents: Family calendar
I don’t know what I would do without my calendar. I have a few different options that I use to keep us all on track and in the know on what is happening in the family’s day to day. I keep a paper calendar at home. I print out a blank month for the entire year and have them clipped on the fridge. I write everything on that calendar. Every doctor’s appointment, class, camp, work schedule, husband’s call schedule for work and of course days off and travel plans. By having the entire year year printed out I can make notes in the borders months ahead to remind me to accomplish future tasks as well. I do highlight activities that are unique to my husband (like a random day off or his call scheduled for work). For other family members I tend to use different colored ink pens to keep everyone sorted out.
Life Savers for Busy Parents: The Medici App
If there is one thing that busy parents don’t have time for it’s a sick family (fur babies included). In reality it’s gonna happen, especially all of those back to school sniffles that we know are coming. To make life a little easier when those moments creep up on us, I’ve downloaded the Medici app for my smartphone. It’s been really easy to use and has all of the providers you could need right in one place. You can text, voice or video call your provider and you don’t have to worry about the security of your personal information because it all takes place over a secure platform. Search for your current provider and connect with them. If you don’t see them listed, you can send them an invite to join easily. Another option is to choose from their recommended providers from every specialty you can think of. You’ll be able to get ePrescriptions, eReferrals (to specialists) and Lab Results within the app!
A few other great perks of the Medici app, no insurance is required and the provider’s fee is clearly shown when you select which provider you want to connect with. The App also has the ability to have all conversations with doctors translated into any one of 20+ languages (studies show patient outcomes improve when patients are able to communicate with their doctor in their preferred language).
The Medici app has been such a lifesaver for our family, and we know it’ll come in handy once the busy school season starts! If you’re looking to make your life as a busy parent easier as well, I encourage you to download the Medici app.
Life Savers for Busy Parents: Meal Planning
One of my favorite things to do for my family is to cook. With our busy (fun) schedule it’s crucial that I plan things out ahead of time. Since I grocery shop weekly I plan out our meals 1 week at a time. I like to do this with my calendar in hand so I can account for activities that place us away from home during the dinner hours. I usually lay out what days we are gone and will be eating out, then I fill in our favorite meals for the days that I know we are eating at home. I try to do the same thing for lunches with the intention of sticking to the plan but occasionally the random drive through makes it into our day for convenience sake. Once you have the meals mapped out, I take to the pantry and list anything I need to prep that meal that isn’t already in the house. I go down my menu meal by meal. Then I add my staples for the week that don’t always hit into a meal, but are needed like kid snacks and easy grab and go breakfast items. My family prefers fresh meals cooked each day so planning out meals helps us a ton. I know there are some families out there that spend an entire day cooking and packaging and have their meals for the entire week set. This doesn’t work for my schedule at this time but I love not panicking each afternoon thinking about what I am going to cook tonight.
