Magic Adventures in Space: Putting this Girl on the Moon
Last year Mary declared that she loved space and everything about it. Now this is a passion I can fully embrace, and as a homeschool mom I tried to think of fun ways to really give her above and beyond the typical exposure to learning about space as a place and everything that is included in that topic. There are so many great STEAM tools to use on this subject and I just had to find them. She went on her first ever daddy daughter camping trip to Big Bend National Park which just so happens to include the Greater Big Bend International Dark Sky Reserve which is the largest Dark Sky Certified place in the world. A local group was holding a stargazing event and she could not have been more thrilled. Now pair that up with a homeschool sleepover at the Johnson Space Center and I have an astronaut in training.
That Christmas all she could talk about was space and her gifts quickly became centered around her newest passion. Fast forward a year and she still loves space. She is the kid that you wake up in the middle of the night because you can see the Milky Way perfectly (really happened). This year she is older and a bit more mature and we have been thinking of what is the best way to continue to nurture this passion that goes beyond space themed dolls and building blocks.
The Magic Adventures™ Telescope was exactly what we were looking for! Not only can she look at the moon, but during the day the telescope allows her to see at 110x zoom. We are finally having some cooler days in Texas and with that has come a lot of clouds. I love that they are still enjoying the telescope even when using it to explore nature during the day time hours. With over 100+ amazing videos and images, courtesy of NASA and the European Space Agency, we all get to learn more about space including the solar system, constellations and more. It’s an all around great STEAM tool that the kids will think of as their favorite toy ever.
For those days when we aren’t able to make it outside to use the telescope, she will coloring with these adorable space themed colored pencils and coloring books. When she lays her head down at night I can not wait for her to be wowed by the glow in the dark stars attached to her ceiling (these were every kids dream when I was younger and haven’t lost their luster one bit!).
