Making Birthday Traditions

I partnered with White Loft to bring your this great new Birthday Tradition, all opinions are my own.

Birthday Traditions // Life Anchored

The Misters family has a tradition of rubbing butter on your nose on your birthday, don’t ask, I have no idea what it means or where it came from. I just know that I’ve had my nose assaulted with butter for the past 11 years. My family did the more traditional cake and ice cream style of birthday fun.

I’ve been busy planning Baby D’s 1st Birthday party. I guess he’s not really a baby anymore so I should stop calling him that, we call him JDub. So JDub’s first birthday is about to happen and there are a few things I’d like to start as traditions with him aside from the obvious party and indulgence in sweet yumminess.

I remember my parents marking my brothers’ height along the wall in their living room. We moved into that house when I was a freshman in high school so I wasn’t getting any taller. I’ve moved more since meeting The Mister than in all the years before so I know its a real possibility that we won’t live in the same house while JDub grows up. I don’t want to leave that wall of memories and measurements behind. When I started thinking about it I knew exactly what we needed, a growth chart that we could take with us anywhere we moved. Since I love to shop local and handmade, White Loft was the obvious choice for an adorable growth chart.

I picked out the Greystone chart because, well I love grey and it went perfectly in JDub’s Nautical nursery. I was torn between it and the Mineral Mint, I really love Mint too. Now every year on his birthday we’ll measure him to see how much he’s grown through out the last year and mark it down. As he gets older I’d love to include little notes next to his measurement such as what he wants to be when he grows up or a fun milestone from that year. Like a giant baby book! (White Loft has an awesome coupon code for Life Anchored readers, check out their ad in the side bar for the code) I know that this amazing growth chart will be something that stays with me in the future, I wanted to make sure and add those important numbers to his baby book. I added this adorable chart from Polkadot Paper Co. to his book.

Last week I was at JoAnns and I came across an adorable box, in of course a nautical theme (I can’t help it). I decided this would be perfect for keepsakes. I added his 1st year baby book to the box as well as a few t-shirts that were our favorites. I included all of the card’s from my baby shower with sweet notes from all the friends and family that were excited for his arrival. I plan to write him a letter every year on his birthday, one from me and one from his daddy. Bundle them up in this sweet box for him to have when he’s older. Birthday Traditions // Life Anchored

Absolutely adorable. Enjoy all these birthdays while he’s young. They hit teenagehood and no longer want you at their party!

Oh this makes me want another little one! My “baby” is 9 and I don’t know if I would have the energy to start over though!

Love that ruler! My parents marked our heights on this one wall in the kitchen. I took lots of pictures of the wall when they moved.

Thank you! I loved all of them, but the Greystone was a perfect match for his room.

I love the idea of a keepsake box. We did the same thing with wedding cards. Great idea!

These are such cute traditions, and he is absolutely adorable! I can’t really think of any traditions we have in our family, maybe I should change that haha.

I can’t believe how much fun it was to plan that party, and stressful too! Get to crafting early.
