When I started to brainstorm this post I was running titles by my blog BFF. Originally I was thinking about Our our Favorite Indoor Toys for Active Kids to beat the summer heat. She was quick to point out that these would all work great in the winter months as well or days like today when everyone is spending more time at home related to health issues. Since our Winters are so mild we spend a lot of them outdoors and it didn’t even occur to me! For us, these are our go to favorite indoor toys for active kids during those hot Summer months when you are trying to beat the heat!
#1 Ball Pit!
You heard me right, what kid doesn’t love a ball pit. Mine both think they are the best thing ever. I didn’t buy a fancy marketed ball pit. Rather Grandma purchased the perfect inflatable kiddie swimming pool and we filled it with colorful plastic balls. Now they both love playing in it right in the middle of my living room! Or there are options for a legit mini ball pit?
#2 Play Tunnel
We have spent endless afternoons chasing each other through our play tunnel. I love the quality of the materials and also how easy it it to collapse, secure and store out of the way. Even mary loves crawling through it, over and over again.
Every kid enjoys building blocks, mine can build towers for days! With these jumbo cardboard building bricks, they can construct everything their big imaginations can come up with!
I have some fun memories of the climbing dome in elementary school, they may or may not have involved a lot of mud. When we spend time at our local park it is a crowd pleaser for sure and I can see why kids love them so much. What better that a climbing dome in your living room or play room? This wooden climbing dome will hold up to 4 kids and is ready to keep those active kids happy.
What kid wouldn’t want an indoor ride on roller coaster with 9 feet of track and an elevated launch pad kids are going to love racing over and over. BONUS they are going to build lots of muscles pushing that car up the track over and over!
#6 Foamnasium
You can build your own gymnasium with these awesome pieces of covered foam. We have used these are classes and in various child care situations. They are so much fun and great for even little ones just starting to climb and stand. Soft landings and lots of fun.
During the Summer months we make a trip to the indoor bounce place 1-2 times a week. Its a hit, I know he is going to love it. What makes me laugh is that he loves the simple one that is set aside for the little kids over those giant ones with the slides. We have a friend with 5 kids under 5 and when she posted a picture of this in their living room I knew she was a genius.
Great for improving balance and coordination, each stone is a different size and has a different degree of steepness. Perfect for combining with many of these other toys to build the ultimate indoor obstacle course.
#9 Magna Tiles
Even though this is suppose to be about toys for keeping kiddos active, these are some of the best toys for building and imagination. We love to build towers and buildings with walls. Great colors and shapes for learning tools.
