Our Getaway to Lively Beach on Mustang Island
Hot summer days are right on our heels and honestly I can’t wait. Summer is my favorite season and even in Texas where our temperatures will climb over a hundred degrees and settle there for weeks, it’s still my favorites. I’m already thinking about lemonade stands, homemade popsicles, swimming holes, summer gardens and of course days at the beach. In the past few years we’ve visited a few different destinations along the Texas gulf coast. There are always highlights to each location so I’m not sure we’ve ever chosen a favorite to return back to on future trips.
We were thrilled when Lively Beach invited us out for a weekend to get their full family friendly experience prior to the busy summer season. My second favorite thing to hot summer days on the beach are cool winter days at the beach. We visited at the end of February and I loved every minute of it!
Lively Beach is located on Mustang Island, roughly 25 minutes from Corpus Christi and once you’re on the island you’re pretty limited to a small grocery store, a few local restaurants and a cute putt putt golf course. Not that we minded one bit.
Lively Beach has a variety of accommodations that will fit any families need. We stayed in the 2 bedroom 2 bathroom condo with a kitchenette, and patio. This condo was arranged to sleep 6 people which gave the 3 of use plenty of room to stretch out. I didn’t do much cooking during our stay BUT it was nice to have real dishes for our pizza delivery and we did enjoy some popcorn as well.
The condos are a bit of a mirage amongst the sandy dunes near the beach. Surrounded by palm trees, the structure stands out. With a short wooden boardwalk exclusive to guests you are walking on the beach within minutes. After playing on the beach including sand castles building, kite flying and attempted shell collection (you can drive on the beach so most shells get crushed) we made our way back to the heated swimming pool to warm up and the sun peeked out just in time.
After showers and bundling up, we grabbed our s’mores supplies and made our way to the gas fire pit that was simple to use and located right next to the community grills, outdoor games and entrance to the boardwalk.
Here are a few of our beach essentials that I make sure to pack for the best beach experience possible.
Okay so hear me out, did you know that the rings around a red solo plastic cup are actually measurement marks and can be used for making mixed drinks!? Didn’t have a clue, Pirani tumblers takes it to the next level by replicating those marks but on a awesome metal reusable eco friendly cup with lid!
Always looking for the best skin skin protection for this fair skinned crew. Maui Vera sunscreen is a new favorite for their sunscreen and I’m loving their after sun care products as well.
Beach toys!!! A good sand shovel, kite and castle building tools. We snagged all of ours from Target before we adventures out to the island.
I made sure to bring my Instamax camera and let the kids have fun snapping pictures of their own. Don’t forget lots of film.
