The count down is on to the last day of school. The kids are ready for Summer, warm days filled with splash pads, lemonade stands, and afternoon movies. It’s time to start planning how to keep those little ones busy for the next 2 months. Nothing screams Summer more than a spontaneous (or planned) Road Trip! Whether you are adventuring out on a family vacation, a trip to a theme park or a weekend camping, road trips are the quintessential summer activity.
We decided to get a jump start on Summer Fun and took a last minute road trip. We headed to Houston to watch a baseball game and get out of town for the night. Our quick trip for a game ended up with not only baby’s first ball game, but we hit the outlet malls on the way home for a little mommy makeover (more on that later) and a quick swim in 3 different swimming spots.
To get ready for our trip I threw together a quick overnight bag, I keep our toiletries always ready in a prepacked bag. Grabbed a baby carrier and SNACKS! No road trip is complete with out lots and lots of snacks. A quick stop at the store for a few snacks for JDub, our Road Trip Survival Kit for The Mister and I and were ready to hit the road.
Wal-mart is an easy stop for me and I can get everything I need for our trip. Snacks are what I really came for so I hit up the candy aisle (special trips call for special treats). M&M’s® is a must. I make sure to get a big bag so I can refill our Road Trip Survival Kit for the trip home too. I decided that I needed some peanut M&M’s®, Starbursts®, Skittles®(trying a new flavor) and Lifesavers®. I mixed in a few yummy chocolate favorites as well as nuts and pretzels. Nothing better than the salty/sweet combo.

To make our Road Trip Survival Kit, I grabbed a craft organizing box (they come in a variety of sizes). You will usually find find them in the bead/jewelry section of the craft store.
I filled each compartment with our favorite road trip treats and added this colorful tag to the outside just to make it more fun! You can print your own colorful tag for your Road Trip Survival Kit by clicking the image below. Have a great time adventuring!

I love how that looks and how it’s all self contained. Now that my kids are all old enough and I plan on doing lots of road trips, we may have to do this.
