St. Patrick’s Day Glitter Horseshoe Garland tutorial

I put this St. Patrick’s Day Glitter Horseshoe garland together to help decorate the kid’s table area. I love the way it came out and it can be use as a mantel garland or even attached to a wreath. Garlands are a diverse decorating item and I love to use something a little different each holiday season. This is the first time in a long while that I have made my own because honestly there are just so many adorable ones out there I’ve always just bought one.

To get started on this adorable horseshoe garland you will need the following supplies:

Wooden Horseshoes
Scrapbook paper
Bakers Twine
Hole Punch
Scissors
Pencil
Tacky Glue
Themed ribbons 1/4″ ideal
Foam brush
Sanding block

Once you have gathered your supplies you are ready to get started. Determine how long you want your garland to be and cut your twine. Make sure you give your self about 8″ extra to tie hanging loops on each end. Now you will want to lay out your horseshoes to see how many you need.

On the back side of your scrapbook paper trace the horseshoe. I plan to alternate my paper colors, so I did half and half of each color paper. Carefully cut out the traced horseshoes.

Using the tacky glue brush the glue on to the wooden horseshoe placing your paper cut horseshoe in place. Sit aside to dry completely. I recommend turning them upside down and placing something on top of them to make sure all edges glue down.

Once the glue has dried, using your hole punch, place holes in the ends of each horseshoe. This is what you will use to thread the horseshoes onto your twine later.

Next you will string your horseshoes onto the twine you cut earlier. I’d encourage you to lay out the horseshoes before you start so you have your spacing already determined. It will be fairly easy to slide them along the twine if you need to adjust once they are strung.

Cut 4-5″ strips of your ribbons, tie them in the blank spaces between your horseshoes. On the end of each side of the twine tie a simple loop to use for easy hanging.

I can not wait to get this adorable St. Patrick’s Day Horseshoe garland hung up in the kids area to celebrate the upcoming holiday.
