I partnered with Bright Signs Learning to start teaching our toddler to read. All opinions are my own.
A few months ago I text a dear friend from high school. She home schools her 3 children and has been a mom 7 years longer than me. My question was about kindergarten. What should my child know for kindergarten? Seriously?!?! My son wasn’t even 2 yet and I’m stressing about this. She turned me on to a great book about educating our kids and what to teach when. We started working on a few things that we had an interest in and that helped us as a family over all.
Sign language is amazing for communicating with babies and toddlers. It allows them to have some sense of control while being able to communicate their wants before they can verbalize it. For parents it eliminates the screaming and grunting at the pantry shelves. After several months of learning sign language basics on our own we were introduced to Bright Signs Learning and instantly loved the curriculum. It’s a great place to start teaching your toddler to read.
Bright Signs Learning is an interactive program for parents to learn along side their children. Through DVDs, songs flash cards. JDub has continued to learn new signs, identify pictures/objects and identify a few orders. We continue to work on the program daily and have seen a great growth in vocabulary as well as signing. As we are driving down the street he is identifying everything we pass. So next month we will move on to the next DVD in the series and introduce a new set of flash cards, while still incorporating the previous months cards for review. I like to use the cards while we are playing and slip on in here and there since I know his attention span is limited.
Bright Signs Learning curriculum is available through their website.
