Last year we finally gave our gigantic old school tube tv away. It had been sitting in a armour in out living room for the past 5 years collecting dust. It had been plugged in a few times and hooked up to a DVD player but that was about it. I look back over the years and I think about all the money we saved by not having a cable bill, it’s thousands of dollars!
When people hear that we don’t have a TV they always seemed shocked. I frequently hear things like; Don’t you feel out of the loop? You don’t watch any tv? I could never survive without my favorite shows.
Here’s why we ditched our TV…
#1 Save money
It’s always nice to save money and over the years we have saved thousands of dollars by not paying for cable and add ons like DVR.
#2 Makes us get outside
Since we don’t have a TV sitting front and center in our living room we spend a lot of time outdoors and hanging out as a family.
#3 We get to monitor screen time, on our time
Don’t get me wrong we still enjoy our favorite shows. Now we have better access to screen time and what is being viewed rather than endless channels. Plus I get to watch the more adult shows after the little one has gone to bed and it’s mommy time!
#4 We didn’t need an actual TV
We already had access to everything we wanted to watch without the TV.
My favorite network is making it easy for you to enjoy your favorite shows on your time with out the big TV and cable bill. NBC is now allowing you to view both live tv as well as shows that have already aired. You can watch the episode of Chicago Fire (my favorite) from last week or catch The Voice live! How awesome is that!? Wait it gets better, you don’t have to have a cable provider to log in and watch. You get to enjoy everything NBC.com has to offer from your laptop or desktop computer without an extra downloads or hoops to jump through.
The one TV on our house is only used to stream or tune into local and national news.
Maybe I need to watch Chicago Fire. I don’t think I’ve really been into an NBC show since Friends or ER.
